ACN had the opportunity to work on a large project requested by ALEN at one of its plants located in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. Within this project, the Modernization of the entire Sodium Hypochlorite production plant was carried out, implementing a new DCS PlantPAx control system, this process consists of saturation, reaction-filtration, filtered brine, Ion exchange, sludge filter, discoloration, electrolyzer, reactors, caustic soda, reverse osmosis water, ultrapure brine, tower water, cold water, steam system, and transforectifier.
In this project we worked together with the INTECPI company, this company is a firm of engineering services and technological support that is aimed at the industrial sector. Composed of specialists in various branches of chemical engineering and industrial processes from Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico.
The main services that were enhanced are dedicated to improving the safety and risk of process plants predominantly related to the handling, production and transformation of lethal or high-risk materials (chlorine, soda, ammonia, sulfur dioxide, hydrofluoric acid, hydrocarbons). , etc.)
The plant sought to obtain a technological update of this control system due to the new sodium hypochlorite production plant, for which reason the implementation of a new DCS PlantPAX Rockwell Automation was specifically considered, this consisted of the integration of a new panel of main control thus centralizing all the process I / O, the integration of a remote I / O cabinet for VMS and new Allen Bradley Smart CCMs with Ethernet / IP protocol were integrated.
For this new SDCM it was considered to install a modern DCS PlantPAx platform that is made up of ControlLogix L73 processors with redundant sources in all its Racks. For all I / O modules, the 1492-IFM pre-wired module system, stratix8000, Factory Talk View SE, Factory Talk Historian, RsLogix5000, rack-type server, two double monitor operating stations, two were integrated. client stations, a Historian client station, and an engineering station. I / O Quantity: 186 AI, 36 AO, 224 DI, 48 DO.
In order to maintain a secure electrical supply, a UPS system was considered for the entire control system, used to protect and provide backup power to all connected devices during certain periods of time, this for cases such as unforeseen electrical blackouts.
The implementation of the system began in August 2011 and ended in January 2012. All this while ALEN updated its Hypochlorite production plant in terms of civil, structural, equipment, instrumentation, electrical work. ACN Automatización y Control del Norte, helped the client to complement / complete the DCS part of the plant, integrating the control and monitoring system, detailed engineering, commissioning, vacuum tests, load tests, as well as reaching the end start-up on time and in accordance with the previously revised and approved program of activities. In that sense, the technical division of ACN delivered a functional specification of the project, the system architecture and the arrangements in the design plan of the control panels, electrical control diagrams, control loops, I / O list, Interlocks , as well as the work of integrating the CCMs into the SDCM.
The end user ensures that, with this new, more modern and secure platform, the company is calm about the operation of its process, thus avoiding possible failures or unexpected problems.
One of the most difficult challenges of the project, without a doubt, was to carry out the implementation within a very limited time, and the tuning of some PIDs, at ACN we are dedicated to generating proposals to give a solution with confidence to cover with the needs of our clients, so this challenge was fully met.
The client pointed out that, in this sense, there was adequate coordination with the engineers from ACN Automatización y Control del Norte in conjunction with INTECPI, for which they mentioned to us that: “we complied in time and form with each of the stages assigned in set».
The technical service provided by ACN, in the opinion of our client, was adequate and timely, holding a series of coordination meetings, especially in the area of software integration, a matter in which the provider carried out additional tests to guarantee its optimal operation. Regarding the FAT (factory acceptance) and SAT (site acceptance) tests, the system was reviewed for several weeks at ACN facilities according to a checklist.
On the other hand, a dry run was carried out and subsequently with process loading in ALEN facilities, coordinated in conjunction with the client to test programming logic, HMI graphics, readings of process variables, data recording, reporting, event log, interlocks, alarms, operation sequences, etc. This was done until the test was completed and successful according to the schedule of activities.
Having a more modern, scalable, robust, efficient and secure platform, in addition, the solution provides greater versatility and better levels of communication, which allows the control and monitoring of variables in real time that may be critical to the process.
